From Roots to Renewal

For more than a century, flowers have shaped San Francisco’s cultural fabric—first cultivated by Japanese American growers and later flourishing at the Flower Mart on 6th and Brannan. More than a market, it became a symbol of resilience and community, where traditions and beauty came to life each morning.

Now, as the site is reimagined through the Central SoMa Plan, its legacy informs a new chapter. The redevelopment will bring 100,000 square feet of retail and creative workspace, plus plazas for markets, exhibitions, and gatherings—rooted in history yet designed for tomorrow’s SoMa.
